Acuity Law advise on landmark deal between Welsh Government & Wales Rugby Union

Key Contact: Chris Agius

Acuity Law are delighted to have been appointed by Welsh Government on a landmark deal that will “significantly strengthen and support” the future of Welsh Rugby.

The refinancing was led by seasoned Real Estate Finance Partner Chris Agius who worked closely with Welsh Government to draft facility and security documents for the £18m loan to the WRU.

With further expertise and insight provided by Banking heavy weight and ex-City lawyer, Sam Clarke and Associate Cassian Goode, the Acuity team liaised with lawyers acting for the WRU and NatWest, whose initial CLBILS loan was also repaid as part of the deal.

Chris Agius commented “It was a great pleasure to have been chosen by Welsh Government to advise on this transaction. Our role facilitated their aim of helping the WRU with financial support, whilst providing protection for their significant investment. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities, across offices to achieve such a high-profile outcome and I am grateful for the invaluable support provided by our Head of Real Estate Finance, Sam, and Cassian”
