As part of the summer economic update, the Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced a new £2bn Green Homes Grant Scheme (the Scheme), which will be available to homeowners in England from September 2020.

Under the Scheme, landlords and owner-occupiers will be able to apply for vouchers of up to £5,000 to cover at least two-thirds of the cost of making energy-saving home improvements, such as installing insulation, double-glazing or a new boiler. For lower income households, the full cost of such improvements (up to £10,000) will be covered by the Scheme.

The Scheme will form part of the Government’s wider £3bn “Green Package”, which will seek to make the UK more energy efficient and generate “green-jobs”, as the Government looks to kickstart the economy. The Green Package will also include £1bn of funding to help make public buildings, including schools and hospitals, more energy efficient.

Full details of the Scheme have not yet been announced, but we anticipate further details on the support available to businesses to help enhance their green credentials to follow shortly.
