About the role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Lawyer to join our firm as a Partner. We’re on the lookout for
a high-calibre non-contentious Construction Lawyer to join our team as a Partner, with a unique
opportunity for Senior and Managing Associates eager to make their mark at the Partner level. This role
offers the chance to shape and grow our thriving non-contentious construction practice, known for
delivering innovative, client focused legal solutions across the UK.


If you have at least ten years of experience in a similar role at a UK law firm, a deep understanding of

They handle every aspect of a project from acquisition and planning to construction and leasing, while adeptly navigating both contentious and non-contentious issues. With a strong reputation for high-profile work, they engage in significant infrastructure developments and city-centre regeneration schemes, delivering innovative solutions for urban living, commerce, and creativity. On the contentious side, the team expertly manages disputes across the UK, representing a diverse clientele that includes social housing providers, developers, contractors, and construction professionals.

Key responsibilities

As a Construction Partner, you will play a leading role in our construction practice, advising a diverse client base on non-contentious construction matters. You will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice, developing new business opportunities, and contributing to the ongoing success and growth of the team.

Legal expertise and client advisory

  • Advising developers, contractors, funders, employers, and consultants on a broad range of construction matters, including drafting and negotiating construction contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties, and security documents. 
  • Lead on high-value non-contentious construction matters, with expertise in drafting and negotiating complex construction documents, including JCT, NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke contracts for large-scale projects.  
  • Acting for clients in high-value construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, construction laws, and best practices. 
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments, market trends, and regulatory changes in the construction sector. 

Business development and client relationship management

  • Leading and expanding the firm’s construction practice by maintaining and developing strong client relationships.
  • Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to the firm’s growth strategy through networking, marketing, and thought leadership.
  • Working closely with other practice areas, including real estate, banking, and litigation, to provide seamless and integrated advice to clients.

Leadership and team development

  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior lawyers and associates, supporting their professional development and technical expertise.
  • Contributing to the strategic direction of the firm’s construction offering, ensuring continued innovation and excellence.
  • Promoting a collaborative and inclusive team culture, fostering knowledge sharing and best practices.
About you

We are looking for an experienced and commercially astute Construction Partner with expertise in noncontentious matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent client
management skills, and the ability to lead and grow a successful construction practice.

Personal specification

  • At least 10 years post-qualification experience in construction law gained at a reputable UK law firm. 
  • Significant experience handling non-contentious construction matters and a demonstrated track record of managing complex construction matters and deep understanding of construction law, project development and contract management.  
  • Strong mentoring skills, team-oriented, and able to inspire and support the professional development of junior lawyers and colleagues. 
  • A passion for integrating legal technology and developing streamlined processes that enhance client service and efficiency.   
  • A proven track record of developing and managing client relationships, generating business, and contributing to the growth of a legal practice. 
  • Strong knowledge of industry-standard contracts, including JCT, NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke agreements. 
  • Exceptional commercial awareness, with the ability to provide strategic and pragmatic advice tailored to clients’ business objectives. 
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to develop junior lawyers and contribute to team growth. 
  • A collaborative mindset, capable of working across different practice areas to provide comprehensive legal solutions.
