About the role
As Senior Partner – Head of Energy, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the firm’s strategic vision for the Energy sector. You will lead a multidisciplinary team advising clients on a broad range of energy-related matters, including real estate, corporate transactions, litigation, commercial contracts, and employment issues.
You will leverage your extensive industry experience and client network to drive business development, enhance client relationships, and strengthen the firm’s market position.

Key responsibilities
As the Head of the Energy Sector Group, you will play a pivotal role in leading and expanding the firm’s energy practice, advising clients on high-profile matters across the renewable energy, oil and gas, power, and infrastructure sectors. This is a strategic leadership role that combines legal expertise, business development, and team management to drive growth and innovation within the firm’s energy sector offering.
Legal Expertise & Client Advisory
- Providing specialist legal advice to clients in the energy sector, including developers, investors, utilities, regulators, and government entities.
- Advising on a broad range of energy projects and transactions, including project finance, M&A, joint ventures, regulatory matters, and commercial contracts.
- Leading on complex energy infrastructure projects, including renewables, offshore and onshore developments, energy storage, grid connections, and supply agreements.
- Ensuring compliance with UK and international energy regulations, including environmental law, permitting, and licensing frameworks.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, providing commercially focused and strategic legal solutions that align with industry developments.
Sector Leadership & Business Development
- Developing and executing the firm’s strategy for the energy sector, identifying market opportunities and growth areas.
- Leading business development initiatives, enhancing the firm’s profile within the energy industry through networking, industry events, and thought leadership.
- Expanding and maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring the firm is the first choice for legal advice in the energy sector.
- Collaborating with other practice areas, including corporate, banking, regulatory, real estate, and disputes, to provide integrated and seamless client service.
- Staying at the forefront of industry trends, regulatory changes, and market developments, positioning the firm as a key player in the energy sector.
Team Leadership & Development
- Managing and mentoring a team of lawyers, supporting their technical development and career progression.
- Creating a collaborative and high-performance culture within the energy sector group.
- Driving innovation and efficiency in the firm’s approach to energy law, adopting new technologies and best practices.
About you
We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven, and visionary lawyer with at least 10 years PQE and a strong track record in energy law. You will be a sector specialist with deep industry knowledge, exceptional client management skills, and proven leadership experience.
Personal Specification
- 10+ years PQE, with extensive experience in energy law gained at a leading UK law firm.
- A strong background in project finance, M&A, regulatory matters, commercial contracts, and energy infrastructure projects.
- Proven expertise advising clients across renewables, oil & gas, power, utilities, and infrastructure.
- A strategic and commercial mindset, capable of driving the firm’s energy sector growth and identifying market opportunities.
- Strong business development skills, with a demonstrable track record of growing a client base and expanding market presence.
- Exceptional leadership and team management experience, with the ability to mentor, inspire, and develop junior lawyers.
- Extensive experience handling high-value and complex transactions, with strong negotiation and contract drafting skills.
- A deep understanding of UK and international energy regulations, market trends, and sustainability initiatives.
- A collaborative and entrepreneurial approach, with the ability to work seamlessly across multiple practice areas.
- A recognised industry profile, with strong connections in the energy sector and a track record of thought leadership, public speaking, or media contributions.
