Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking

Introduction

This statement is made voluntarily in light of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It constitutes Acuity Law Limited’s (“Acuity”) slavery and human trafficking statement.

Our Organisation

Acuity Law is a commercial law firm focussed on supporting businesses with their business plans. The experience and breadth of expertise across Acuity and our overseas network mean that we can handle sizeable, complex transactions across the UK and internationally.

The very essence of the work we do requires us to advise our clients on their responsibilities, rights, ethical and professional obligations, and the consequences of getting them wrong. We adopt the same approach with our business and continuously strive to hold ourselves to the highest ethical and professional standards.

We have approximately 100 members of staff who are based in and around the United Kingdom, with offices in Cardiff, Swansea and London. Our staff are largely directly employed by Acuity with some of them acting as consultants. None of our staff are in a category which is generally seen to be vulnerable to modern slavery in this, so our focus in publishing this statement is to ensure the policies and procedures in place with our supply chain are compliant.

As a regulated provider of legal services and employer of predominantly professionally qualified and highly skilled people, the risk of modern slavery in our business is considered low. We apply robust policies and procedures concerning employment screening and employment conditions.

Our Supply Chain

As an office-based business, our primary supply chain categories are in respect of those goods and services required to support our office operations. These categories include office space, office services (including the provision of security, office suppliers and cleaning), IT and technology, professional services, and business travel.

Policies

Acuity has several policies in place that aim to minimise the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chain. These include:

• Recruitment policies
• Whistle-blowing policy
• Equality and Diversity policy
• Employee code of conduct

Training

We frequently provided advice and guidance to staff who deal with suppliers and intend on educating our wider teams on the devastating impact slavery and human trafficking can have on those who have been subjected to it.

Looking Ahead

Over the course of the next few years we will continue to educate our staff and will proactively monitor our policies in an attempt to identify, prevent and mitigate any risks of modern slavery or human trafficking in relation to both new and existing suppliers.
