Martin has trained, qualified and practised for 10 years in the City (London). He advises on contentious, high-value and often cross-border commercial disputes for a broad range of clients, in particular from the financial services, telecommunications and energy sectors. Martin has advised both multinational companies and high net worth individuals.

Martin posses specific expertise, in particular, in advising on negligence and misrepresentation claims (including numerous high profile individuals from the sports and media sectors), breach of contract, regulatory compliance and corporate governance issues.

He has also worked on a number of significant public law challenges, including judicial review claims for both private and public sector clients.

Previous secondments include the Legal Unit of the Bank of England whilst at Freshfields. Martin has also acted as a director for a charitable trust.

  • Represented over 100 individual claimants in a high profile professional negligence class action against a number of defendants in respect of advice given in respect of a failed film finance tax scheme     
  • Secured an out of court settlement for a high net worth individual from an investment advisor
  • Advised a US hedge fund in its successful professional negligence claim against a major bank arising from the failure of a large Middle Eastern bond (raising novel issues of Shari’ah law): Golden Belt & Ors v BNP Paribas [2017] EWHC 3182
  • Advised on a challenge to domestic and European packaging regulations brought by a major consumer goods manufacturer, including judicial review challenge:  British American Tobacco UK Ltd & Ors, R (on the application of) v The Secretary of State for Health [2016] EWCA Civ 1182
  • Advised Tesco as an interested party in Sainsbury’s unsuccessful judicial review of the Independent Reviewer of the Advertising Standards Authority’s decision not to find certain price comparison advertising misleading: R (on the application of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd) v Independent Reviewer of Advertising Standards Authority Adjudications [2014] EWHC 3680 (Admin)
